Why I Love Creative Writing

Why I Love Creative Writing Hey guys, In my four years here I have taken a lot of classes throughout many different majors and concentrations, and of all of them I would have to say that my favorite have been those in the Creative Writing Department. For those of you who dont know, I am a Creative Writing major. Now, Creative Writing is kind of a sub-major; its attached pretty closely to the English Department, which is great because Ive always loved reading and writing. I get the best of both worlds with my major. Its not all just one big book club, though, where by the time graduation comes around you have to either become a teacher or write a novel. Creative Writing majors, in my experience, are some of the most diverse thinkers on campus. We as a whole are taught to think critically about text, media, etc. and be able to express our thoughts in a cohesive argument that can be understood no matter what medium it is told in. Were out-of-the-box thinkers, were weirdosâ€"but were marketable weirdos. I guess the point of my blog was to partially brag about Creative Writing as a whole, but to also encourage you all to pursue whatever courses/majors makes you happy. Ignore those who would detract you from your own personal success because you may not be in a major that is traditionally one of the big money makers. There is a need for many skill sets out there in the real world, and Illinois  provides the space for us to hone said skills. Until next time, Kenny Kenny Class of 2016 I’m in the Creative Writing program in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. I’m originally from Tampa, Florida, but I’ve been calling Illinois my home since 1998. I’ve lived all over the Northwest suburbs, from Palatine to Lakemoor to where I currently live back home, Mundelein.
